Coming back to work after a break can be a difficult transition. You can go from totally relaxed to completely overwhelmed if you’re not careful.

The start to the New Year should be an exciting time for you and your business – A time to set new goals and plan how you’re going to achieve them. But where do you start?

With these 6 tips!

6 Tips For Returning To Work After A Break:

Tip 1) Take care of you – You can’t go from relaxed family time to drowning in work. It isn’t good for your health or productivity. With going back to work, you need to make sure you’re well looked after.

  • Incorporate exercise into each day – Even if it’s a walk on your lunch break
  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day
  • Pack your own healthy lunches
  • Have one nice plan a week for after work – Could be a social plan or an evening of doing nothing at all – Just make sure it’s something you’re excited about

Tip 2) Remember everyone is in the same boat so take the pressure off yourself – Everyone is coming back to it so no one is sitting there waiting for you to send an email, book a meeting, launch a product, etc. Everyone is busy playing catch-up so give yourself enough time to do the same:

  • Keep your out of office on for at least another day after you’re back to give yourself breathing room
  • Where possible, no meetings for the first week
  • Get on top of your inbox – Make a list of all you need to action so you can then factor in time the following week to get it done

Tip 3) Freshen up your space – Not only does your inbox need to be clutter-free but so does your desk. Make sure it’s clear, clean and welcoming – A plant, photo, candle or quote – Something to make it nice.

Tip 4) Touch base with your team and clients to see how they are – Once you’ve had a couple of days to catch-up on everything, set time aside to have a chat with your people – Even if it’s just a phone call to see how their Christmas was and how they’re doing – It will go a long way and will help you feel like you’re back on top of your relationships after a break away.

Tip 5) Plan your next break – Knowing your next break is on the horizon is a great way to feel better about a return to work.
